I was delighted to participate in the official opening of an extension to the Peter McVerry Trust family services in Athy today.

The new family housing units are in the former Dominican hall, beside the old priory and will allow more families transition to short term accommodation before Christmas.

The extension of Peter McVerry family services is part of the ongoing development of the former Dominican site in Athy who’s purchase by KCC was funded by Government in 2015.

The site is home to our award winning library, and will see a further 25 units developed as dedicated housing for those over the age of 55. Hopefully the site will also become home to a water sports hub.

A fitting legacy to the Dominican order in the town of Athy.
