Men’s Sheds in Kildare are set to benefit from additional funding, Fine Gael TD and Minister Martin Heydon has said. This funding, earmarked for essential operating expenses such as heating, electricity, and insurance, underscores Government commitment to these vital community hubs.
Minister Heydon said, “Men’s Sheds have become a cornerstone in Kildare, significantly contributing to communities across Ireland. They offer a space where men of all ages can gather, socialise, share skills, and collaborate on various projects. This environment is crucial for combating isolation and fostering a sense of camaraderie.”
“The funding is part of a larger €1 million allocation for Men’s Sheds nationwide, benefitting 435 locations with grants of up to €3,000 each – a notable increase from last year’s €800,000 fund. This increase not only reflects our long-term dedication to these community-led initiatives but also addresses the challenges faced by Men’s Sheds during the Covid pandemic, which saw a decline in attendance.”
Minister Heydon concluded, “I am particularly pleased to see the overall funding increased to help the sustainability of our local Men’s Sheds, and I would encourage men in Kildare to check out their local Men’s Shed to see what’s on offer.”
