Fine Gael TD for Kildare South Martin Heydon has today welcomed the news that the long awaited extension of St Conleth’s Vocational post primary school in Newbridge is to commence construction in 2014. The school extension was included on the 2014 construction list published by Minister Ruairi Quinn today.
The planned extension will add 500 spaces to the school capacity when completed, doubling the current footprint size of the school. St Conleth’s have already seen the development of a state of the art sports hall and gymnasium at the school site.

“This extension is badly needed in Newbridge where there is a huge demand for spaces at post primary level. Many of the other post primary schools in the town are already operating at capacity and this is causing huge concern for many parents who have approached me regarding difficulties in sourcing secondary school places for their children in Newbridge.”

“The availability of secondary school places is now a big issue in the town as we see the impact of a growing population, which were well served with a previous growth in the number of primary school places. We now need to see an increase in the number of secondary school places available before the situation becomes more serious. Confirmation of this extension, is a very important step in the right direction.”
