Fine Gael TD for Kildare South, Martin Heydon, has today (Wednesday) expressed his regret at the announcement by Pfizer that it is seeking 150 redundancies in 2014 at the company’s Newbridge facility.
“My thoughts are with the workers and their families at Pfizer’s Newbridge facility who are affected by today’s announcement and I want to assure them that the full supports of the State will be made available to them, as and when they are needed. These redundancies are being sought as a result of the reduction in manufacturing volumes and competitive measures being taken to ensure the site’s future positioning in the global pharmaceutical market.
“I have spoken to senior management at the organisation and we have agreed to meet in the coming weeks to conduct a site visit at the plant to discuss the future plans for the facility in Newbridge. I want to ensure that the site is being positioned to win new investment and that the company will transfer production of some of its newest products into this site over the next few years.”
