Fine Gael TD for Kildare South, Martin Heydon has today (Friday) said that the Minister for Transport Pascal Donohoe has confirmed to him that two new Public Service Obligation (PSO) bus routes will be put in place to cater for the needs of people in Castledermot, Moone, Timolin, Ballitore, Usk and Kilcullen.
“This is a vital investment in rural South Kildare and one that I very much welcome considering the loss so many people have felt since the changes to the JJ Kavanagh routes last January. The confirmation follows recent meetings with the Minister for Transport Pascal Donohoe and the CEO of the National Transport Authority (NTA) and delegations from the Castledermot Community Action group who have been very active on the issue.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to attend the public meeting to be held in Teach Diarmada Castledermot next Tuesday night at 8pm to discuss what times would be most suitable to local residents for any new routes.
“PSO routes are state funded routes which are put in place when it is determined that commercial operators are not providing a service in an area where there is a need for such a service. I am delighted that the hard work of many community minded people in the Castledermot area has paid off to secure this valuable commitment for this area from Government.”
