Martin Heydon Fine Gael TD for Kildare South has this week said that he is pleased that talks between the Dominican Fathers in Athy and Kildare County Council are progressing regarding the future use of the Dominicans site following the withdrawal of the Dominican fathers from Athy on November 27th.

“I like many people will be very sorry to see the Dominicans depart Athy in November after their long and proud service in Athy.  Their contribution to many aspects of town life will long be remembered  by all they came in contact with and helped along the way.

“I believe Kildare County Council could best utilise the site for Community gain while also providing a lasting legacy to the Dominicans contribution to Athy.  I am hopeful that such a scenario will now transpire subject to ongoing negotiations between both the Council and the Dominican fathers.”
