ALL VALID KILDARE APPLICATIONS WERE FUNDED

Fine Gael Kildare South TD, Martin Heydon, has today welcomed the announcement by Minister Michael Ring of €1.85m in Sports Capital Grants for 29 Sports Clubs and projects in Co. Kildare.

“A total of €1,851,884 was awarded to 29 projects in Co. Kildare at varying levels ranging from €185,667 to €1,051.  Nationally an amount of €41m was awarded to 891 projects across the Country.

“A number of applications from clubs around the Country were deemed to be invalid with 26 from Co. Kildare included in this list.  It appears that all valid applications from Kildare clubs were funded.

“This is the third round of the Sports Capital funding allocated under Minister Ring, following suspension of the Programme, under the previous administration, from 2008-2011. In total an amount of €130 million has been allocated for sporting facilities around the Country since the programme was restarted.

“I have seen at first hand the benefits that can accrue to a club and its wider community from this funding from club houses, floodlights, as well as sports equipment for clubs and school.

“It is disappointing that so many applications are deemed to be invalid but I will work with any club who needs assistance to find out why and help them to apply for further rounds.  If any sports club has a query on their application, they can contact me on 087-6262546.
