I am delighted with the news that today Saint Conleth and Mary’s Primary School and Saint Conleth Infant’s School in Newbridge have signed the contracts for the appointment of the design team for their exciting extension.

The extension which will finally see the end of the use of unsafe prefabs was included on the most updated school building list published in November 2015.  It was one of many school building projects approved by the Department for Co. Kildare in the period from 2011 to December 2015 where over €132m

It will be a joint project which will be fully funded by The Department of Education and Skills.

It is anticipated that the extension will involve the provision of

·         Up to 20 additional classrooms including,

·         A 3 Classroom Special Needs Unit (operated jointly by both Schools)

·         A large general purpose hall.

·         New Staff rooms.

·         Refurbishment and upgrading of existing classrooms and facilities.

The Extension will be constructed jointly across the back of the existing campus and will replace several “prefabs”.

The total cost is estimated to be in the region of €8 million and will be completed by mid-2018.

Appointed to oversee the project are Todd Architects, Fearon O’Neill Rooney Engineers, Callaghan Engineers, McGahon Quantity Surveyors and Garland Safety Consultants.

The Design team have already visited the Schools and following their formal appointment will now draw up a number of concepts and options for consideration by both Schools
