Fine Gael Kildare South Martin Heydon TD has today (Wednesday) welcomed confirmation from Imagine that they are rolling out broadband services in parts of Kildare South commencing from a site in Old Kilcullen.

“I have been engaged in ongoing discussions with Imagine in recent months to highlight to them the demand for increased broadband services in many areas of Kildare South.  Following their rollout in Kildare North earlier this year, they have now confirmed that they are ready to go live with a site at Old Kilcullen which is hoped will serve areas within a 13 km radius of the site.

“They hope that the service will be live by the end of July and customers can sign up or check their coverage from today by contacting Imagine at http://www.imagine.ie/lte-fibre-coverage/lte-broadband-kildare/ or by calling their call centre in Sandyford on 1890 929 300 for direct feedback.

Given the scale of the issue in South Kildare, I am aware that there are many areas that require services that this initiative will not serve and I have advised Imagine of that.  I hope if this site is successful that they will consider rolling out more sites around Kildare South and I will continue to push for that.

“I am pleased that this new service now increases the total number of commercial providers operating in the Kildare South area.  My main aim in this work is to increase the amount of choice available to consumers in the hope that this will bridge the gap and help provide appropriate services while we await the state investment programme.

I am continuing to engage with commercial providers about their offerings in this area to try to increase the services available.  I recently met with representatives from Ninetreehill Broadband and am meeting representatives from Eir next week to discuss further their plans for Kildare South and to again impress on them the frustration that exists among residents living in an area so close to Dublin that does not have reasonable broadband services.
