Fine Gael Kildare South TD Martin Heydon has today (Friday) welcomed the first meeting of the National Taskforce on youth Mental Health which took place on Tuesday 6th.  The taskforce was set up by Junior Minister with responsibility for Mental Health Helen McEntee as a response to the high levels of mental health concerns among young people.

“I am pleased to see progress being made by Minister McEntee on raising awareness of services and supports for young people with mental health concerns.  This taskforce is a new initiative to improve mental health and well being of our young people and includes representatives of the public, private community and voluntary sectors.

“I have seen from my interaction with young Kildare people through social media and other platforms their huge awareness for and concerns about mental health issues.  This taskforce focusing on their needs is recognition of the pressures they face and the willingness they show to be open about their thoughts and feelings.

“I look forward to working with Minister McEntee to continue to highlight and seek additional resources for badly needed youth services in Kildare which can help to alleviate youth mental health issues and build a strong youth population in Kildare
