Fine Gael Kildare South TD Martin Heydon this week welcomed Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar as he visited the Allen Area Community Employment Project as part of his visit to Kildare for the Fine Gael think in.

“I was delighted that Minister Varadkar was able to accept my invitation to visit the Allen area last Monday.  He met representatives of the committee and participants from the Allen Area Community Employment Project at a reception at Ballyteague GAA and also at Milltown Heritage Centre.

“The Allen Area CE Scheme is one of the most active in Kildare South placing participants in community projects from Coill Dubh, Robertstown, Allenwood, Clongorey, to Caragh, Ballyteague and Newbridge.

“The Minister was very impressed with the planning put into the morning reception and acknowledged the progressive nature of the scheme. He was entertained by the recently formed Allen area CE choir and met with locals and participants who recently completed training courses.

“Clients from the day care centre in Ballyteague took the opportunity to remind the Minister of the importance of the old age pension in the upcoming budget.

“Great credit is due to Deirdre Moran, the CE committee and their dedicated team of helpers who put on a great show to highlight the strengths of the scheme and the surrounding areas.
