Kildare South Fine Gael TD Martin Heydon has said he was pleased to welcome Minister for Health Simon Harris to visit Naas Hospital last Monday where he met staff, viewed the new CT scanner being installed and heard of plans for the proposed new Endoscopy Unit.

“Hospital Manager Alice Kinsella gave a detailed presentation to the Minister, where she highlighted the need for funding for a new Endoscopy Unit at the hospital.  CEO of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group (DMHG) Dr Susan O’Reilly, who was also in attendance, stated that this was a priority for the Group and that the project was “shovel ready.”

“During his visit Minister Harris visited the emergency department where he met staff, and viewed the new CT scanner as well as viewing the new e-referral system in place.

“I took the opportunity to stress to the Minister the positive impact that the approval of a new endoscopy unit would have for Naas General Hospital.  I praised the staff and management for their excellent performance at the hospital over the last year and pointed to the pressures of the hospital being at capacity due to the demographics of its catchment area.  I intend to meet the Minister again in the near future to push for progress on the endoscopy unit.
