Kildare South Fine Gael TD Martin Heydon has welcomed confirmation from Irish Water of progress on the long awaited new interceptor to connect Newbridge to the Osberstown Wastewater Treatment Plant.  The new connection is badly needed to upgrade current systems and to allow for further development in Newbridge. There can be no new developments in Newbridge without this badly needed piece of infrastructure.

“The Newbridge Interceptor is a significant infrastructural investment for Newbridge and is a good example of a large capital project that has been needed for years and is now being progressed by Irish Water as part of their capital investment programme.

“A number of years ago I fought to have this project included in the Irish Water capital plan. That was a very important milestone as IW then committed to carrying out detailed design work on this project. The progress of this project to planning stage is another important step in ensuring the sustainable development of Newbridge into the future.

“The compulsory purchase order to acquire the necessary land has been submitted to An Bord Pleanala today and will have to be approved.  If it is approved Irish Water intends to open a tender competition for a contractor and the works are expected to take approximately two years to complete.

“I will continue to keep pressure on Irish Water to ensure that this important infrastructural project for Newbridge is progressed as soon as possible.”
