Work has now commenced on the new Athy Community Library inside the former Dominicans church and is due to be completed before the end of this year.

Minister Damien English, who has responsibility for Libraries within his department recently travelled to Athy to witness the start of the works and get a tour of the site.

The new library will be a state of the art community facility with space for study areas, leisure reading, wifi access as well as space to facilitate exhibitions, workshops and lectures. The exciting new community library will also include a multi purpose area designed house floor exhibitions, photography installations, recitals, film, and training.

I am looking forward to visiting the completed site later this year and seeing it become an active part of the community facilities here in Athy.
