Kildare South Fine Gael TD Martin Heydon has said that the new public consultation process on a Human Tissue Bill which includes a proposal for an opt out system of organ donation is a welcome move that could bring this system closer.

“Minister Simon Harris this week opened the public consultation which runs until 9th October.   I would encourage all Kildare residents who have an interest in this issue to take part in the consultation and have your say.

“I have a special interest in organ donation having had a kidney removed when I was 18. I have met families who have benefited from the positive benefits of organ donation and also those who have found comfort in the act of donation at such a sad time.  I welcome the focus from Minister Harris in this consultation on hearing the view of people on ways to increase awareness of organ doation and to increase the number of organs donated in this Country.

“The consultation questionnaire is available online at http://health.gov.ie/ consultations and the closing date for submissions is 09 October 2017.
