Deputy Martin Heydon has welcomed Sports Capital Grant Allocations for Kilcullen Community Centre and Allenwood Scout that were announced as part of the successful appeal applications by Minister of State with special responsibility for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin and Shane Ross, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport.

“I am delighted to see this much needed funding going to the places it will really make a big difference, our local sports clubs.  A number of Kildare clubs were disappointed when the initial allocations were made last November and this new appeals process allowed their applications to be reviewed.

“The grant of €67,500 for Kilcullen Community Centre will allow works to go ahead on the resurfacing of the much used all weather pitch. A grant of €8,000 for Allenwood Scouts will go towards the purchase of canoeing and orienteering sports equipment.

While other Kildare clubs will have been notified that their appeal has been unsuccessful, they will be pleased to learn that a new round of the Sports Capital Programme will open in the near future.

In this regard, it has been agreed that these organisations can simply submit corrected documentation to make the 2017 application valid. There will be no requirement to submit a full new application and all other aspects of the original application will stand.
