In the Dail this week I raised the need for enhanced funding for existing family resource centres. The Minister recently announced 11 new centres around the Country, 2 of which came to Co. Kildare in Athy and Kildare town. They added to our 2 existing centres in Newbridge and the Curragh which need to have their funding reviewed.
“I am very aware of the great services provided in Newbridge Family Resource Centre and at Curragh Pride but they need enhanced funding and facilities to continue to provide that work. There should also be scope for enhanced capital funding to enable these existing centres to expand where the need is there.
” I was pleased that the Minister acknowledged the great work carried out by the existing Family Resource Centres and understood their need for additional funding. She accepted my suggestion that individual Family resource centres should be able to apply for funding according to their needs and services.
” I will work with the Centres in Newbridge and the Curragh to put together proposals that we can submit to the Minister to try and get enhanced funding for these great facilities in our communities.
