Fine Gael TD for Kildare South and Chairman of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party, Martin Heydon, has today held a meeting with Education Minister Joe McHugh, to emphasise to him the continuing pressure on secondary school places in the Newbridge/Kildare area and the growing requirement for additional school places in that area.
“At our meeting in Leinster House today, I highlighted to the Minister that a new group of parents are this week realising the pressure on school places as offers are being made for pupils due to start secondary school in September 2019. I have been contacted by many families this week who have so far been unable to secure a starting place at secondary level in Newbridge.
“While I expect that more places will become available in the coming weeks as second round offers are made, it is still a very worrying time for both children and their parents. Today I again stressed to my party colleague Minister McHugh, of the need for increased capacity and choice of provision at second level in South Kildare.
“The Minister assured me that both he and his officials are aware of the pressure in Kildare South and are progressing the review of secondary school places that is ongoing to ensure that the best solution is found to alleviate the shortages as soon as possible.
