Fine Gael TD for Kildare South and Chairman of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party, Martin Heydon, has received confirmation from Social Protection Minister Regina Doherty in the Dail this week that reviews for those in receipt of reduced contributory pensions post 2012 will commence in January 2019.

Deputy Heydon said “In response to my question Minister Regina Doherty confirmed that 79,000 pensioners in receipt of reduced contributory pensions since 2012 will receive a letter in the coming week confirming that their review will commence in January 2019.

“The reviews will apply to those born after 1st September 2046 who were affected by the 2012 rate band changes.  As part of the reviews up to 20 years of home caring credits for parenting or caring duties can be applied to pension records which in many cases will increase pensions.

“Where increases are awarded they will be backdated to 31st March 2018.  The Minister assured me that no one will lose out as part of this review.  If no increase is awarded, your pension will remain as it is now, so there will be no loss of income.

“Those being reviewed do not need to take any action as the Department will contact them after the review with the outcome or a request for additional information if that is required.

“If anyone has any queries on the letters or review process they can contact my office for further information.
