Newbridge, Clogherinkoe GAA, Cill Dara RFC, Coill Dubh NS among recipients

Fine Gael TD for Kildare South and Chairman of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party, Martin Heydon, has received confirmation that 8 Kildare Sporting Organisations including 4 South Kildare Clubs that he has worked closely with have been awarded Sports Capital Grants totalling €423,200 in prioritised allocations under the new Sports Capital Grant programme.

Deputy Heydon was speaking as the successful applications under the Sports Capital Projects (SCP) were announced by Minister of State with special responsibility for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin and Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross.

I am delighted that after representations to my colleague Minister Brendan Griffin we have changed the process for dealing with clubs who have been deemed invalid.  The clubs awarded today are all very worthy projects and have waited a long time to be successful.

“Scoil na Naomh Uilig in Newbridge has been awarded €107,500 towards a new all weather playing pitch for their school.  This award is a great boost for the school who have already started fundraising towards the project. Coill Dubh NS is another school that has been awarded €33,900 towards an all weather pitch in conjunction with Coill Dubh Residents Assocation.

“Cill Dara RFC will receive €54,600 towards pitch and dressing room upgrades. Clogheringkoe Broadford GAA will benefit from €67,400 towards a new walking track and floodlights.

“These are the first allocations out of the new €40m scheme for which many Kildare cubs have applied.  The announcements today represent the first allocations for this year and are based on clubs that were deemed invalid under the previous rounds of grants who were prioritised this year.
