Following a review of Kildare County Council’s Winter Maintenance Plan 2019, the Council has increased it’s 2019 winter salting programme, effective 28th January 2019. The objective of the Winter Maintenance Plan is to keep all principal roads in the County open to traffic and free from ice.

Fine Gael TD for Kildare South and Chairman of the Parliamentary Party Martin Heydon said “Ten separate routes will be salted during the winter period, resulting in 620Km of road being treated to ensure safer travel for all road users. The additional roads to be salted include the following:
Newbridge – Carragh – Clane

Kildangan – Kildare – Newtown

Kilmeague – Prosperous

Athgarvan – Two Mile House – Kill

Celbridge – Ardclogh

Brownstown Cross – Ballysax School

Eadestown – Rathmore

Ballymore Eustace – Junction with N81

“The salting of roads takes place prior to the time of forecasted ice formation and in consultation with MET Éireann. Following severe weather events in 2018, the Roads Department has upgraded part of its fleet and snow ploughs are available for use where required. Adequate supplies of salt and fuel are also available to Kildare County Council during the winter period.”
