Kildare South Fine Gael TD and party chairman Martin Heydon has welcomed confirmation of the evening and weekend local link bus services by Minister Shane Ross as well as further initiatives to improve rural transport around the Country. The weekend and evening bus services had initially been run as a pilot scheme.
“I am very pleased that the pilot rural bus scheme for evenings and weekends which came from proposals I presented to the Minister on behalf of Fine Gael have proven successful and will now continue. This confirmation includes the route in South Kildare from Newbridge to Athy.
“As well as providing rural transport services into the evenings and weekends my initial proposals were also to highlight the significant potential an expanded local link service can provide. This announcement combined with a community car pilot scheme under local link, to compliment its bus service is further investment and progress in addressing issues of connectivity in rural ireland and helping to address social isolation.
I have always believed in the potential of the local link network to provide solutions to the need for enhanced rural transport options and I look forward to seeing the outcome from the rollout of these new pilot schemes.
