Minister of State and Kildare South TD Martin Heydon has visited the team at Teach Tearmainn Kildare town and carried out the official opening of their new playground.

“I was delighted to attend and carry out the official opening of the new playground at Teach Tearmainn Womens Refuge in Kildare town yesterday (Monday),  The playground was funded through Safe Ireland’s Covid19 Fund supported by proceeds from the Irish Women in Harmony music collaboration.

“It is a fantastic addition to the facilities at Teach Tearmainn and is one of many projects that CEO Lorraine Rowan and her team have progressed this year.

“While Domestic Violence has always been an issue in our towns and communities, it became more pronounced and evident during the Covid19 lockdown leading to funding for 24 hour services at Teach Tearmainn.  These services have been busy all year with out of hours calls also coming from neighbouring counties such as Laois, Offaly & Carlow which do not have these services.

“The team at Teach Tearmainn also opened a new office in Naas this year to run their Court Accompaniment Service which has also been very busy.

“We are very lucky in Kildare to have these services and I look forward to working with Lorraine and her team in the coming months to ensure they can continue to provide these vital services throughout the Covid restrictions and beyond” concluded Minister Heydon.
