Fine Gael Kildare South TD and Minister of State Martin Heydon has welcomed funding of over €115k from the Dormant Accounts Fund to Kildare Sports Partnership for key sports activities and training in Kildare.

“The announcement of funding in excess of €115,000 for a wide range of sport and physical activity measure in County Kildare is great news. The investment from Dormant Accounts Funding includes funding of €43,680 confirmed for Monasterevin Sports Hub and €21,955 for Athy Sports Hub which will significantly benefit these key sports hubs.”

“Kildare Sports partnership has also received funding of €50,000 for other programmes such as Youth Leadership projects (€15,000), Volunteer Training and Support Programmes (€15,000) and Sports Inclusions Disability Programmes Capital Supports (20,000). The investment aims to engage communities across Kildare, focusing on people with disabilities, people who are educationally disadvantaged and from disadvantaged communities”.

“Over the past year we have seen the huge importance that Irish people place on sport and physical activity and the many benefits it can have on our mental and physical wellbeing. While restrictions have been difficult for all groups in society it has been particularly detrimental for people with a disability and for older adults. I look forward to seeing the impact of this funding throughout the year and encourage people to engage with Kildare Sports Partnership and other local sports clubs to reap the many benefits of being active. Dormant Accounts funding makes a real difference to individuals and communities right across the country.”
