Fine Gael Kildare South TD and Minister Martin Heydon has welcomed confirmation of progress on a new primary school for Monasterevin with the project to amalgamate St Peters and St Evins schools now going to tender.

“After much work by both schools boards of management and senior management the Department of Education has confirmed today that the New Primary School project for Monasterevin is now going to tender.

“Cllr. Kevin Duffy and I have pursued this project and worked with the Boards of Management to progress it through the design phase which will culminate in both St. Peter’s School and St. Evin’s School amalgamating into a state of the art, 24 classroom school, a special needs unit and a general purpose hall.

“Today’s announcement is another significant investment in educational facilities in the area, with work progressing well on the multi million-euro development of a new school for St. Paul’s secondary school in the town. However, even more progress is needed, and I continue to highlight with the Minister of Education the capacity pressure that exists across South Kildare to ensure increased provision is delivered as soon as possible for all students.”
