Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister Martin Heydon has welcomed the decision by Bord na Mona to invest in a new headquarters in Newbridge.

“Bord na Móna have had a presence in Newbridge for over 70 years and have now chosen to reinvest in the town by applying for planning permission for an impressive company headquarters on Main Street. Should this project receive planning permission, it will bring a great vibrancy to the street scape and be an important investment securing significant employment in the town.

“This is a significant decision by Bord na Móna to commit its long term future to Newbridge, in the face of some pressure to relocate its administrative headquarters out of Kildare. In my ongoing engagement with the company I have continued to stress the importance of Bord Na Mona to the town and of the potential synergies that can be developed with Kildare County Council regarding the strategic nature of its large town centre site.

“In line with its transition into a climate solutions company, the Bord na Móna headquarters will be built to the highest sustainable standards – future proofing both the integrity of the building itself and the jobs that it provides in our local community for generations to come”, concluded Minister Heydon.
