€172,985 in funding for the upgrade of the Ballymore Golden Falls Walking Loop has been confirmed today (Monday) according to Fine Gael Kildare South TD and Minister Martin Heydon. The funding is announced as part of the launch of a new “Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors” strategy by his colleague Minister Heather Humphreys.
“This funding is a great boost for Ballymore which will upgrade and improve the 5k walk in Ballymore which takes in Golden Falls Dam and runs alongside the Water Treatment Plant. This is a huge investment in the recreation facilities and tourism opportunities for Ballymore, building on the work done with the previous town and village renewals grant that delivered most of the existing 5km walk.
“I have worked on this project as a priority with Cllr Evie Sammon since her election in 2019. The existing path is a well used and appreciated amenity in Ballymore Eustace and credit must go to the Ballymore Eustace Community Development Association who have worked hard to develop the trail to the current stage.
“Today’s funding comes as part of the launch of a new outdoor recreation strategy “Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors” which aims to build on the momentum generated from the pandemic where many communities benefited from the experience of their local outdoor recreation facilities. As part of the strategy new Outdoor Recreation Committees will be established in every County to ensure there is a focused and strategic approach to the development of local amenities.
“The allocation of almost €173k for Ballymore Eustace is part of €14m allocated for the development of 59 outdoor recreation amenities to support outdoor pursuits around the Country. This project will remain a priority for both myself and Cllr Evie Sammon and we look forward to seeing the further development that will be achieved with this funding,” concluded Minister Heydon.
