Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister Martin Heydon has noted the contents of the Constituency Review Report of the Electoral Commission published this morning.  The report recommends an increase of 14 TD’s nationally with 4 new constituencies, while in Kildare, Kildare South remains a 4 seat constituency while Kildare North increases to a 5 seat constituency.

“As Kildare North extends to a 5 seat constituency, I am disappointed that Kildare South has lost areas around Caragh, Two Mile House and Kilashee which have moved to Kildare North.   I have been proud to represent these areas since I was first elected to Dail Eireann in 2011 and I will continue to work with the local communities in these areas until the next general election.

“The recommendations of the Electoral Commission will also see the areas of Portarlington, Ballybrittas and Killenard which have been in Kildare South return to a new 3 seat constituency of Laois.  I have welcomed the opportunity to represent the people of Portarlington and surrounding areas in this Dail term, assisted by my colleagues Cllr PJ Kelly and former Cllr Tom Mulhall before him.

“I welcome the fact that our County boundary in Kildare has been kept intact.  As Kildare’s Minister in Government, I look forward to contesting the next general election in the Kildare South constituency representing the citizens of Kildare South”, concluded Minister Heydon.
