Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister of State Martin Heydon has welcomed confirmation from the Department of Education that school extensions at Cross and Passion College Kilcullen and Patrician Post Primary School Newbridge are to progress to tender.
“This is a really significant step for both schools which I have pushed for as Kildare’s Minister in Government. The schools are included in a bundle of six schools to be progressed which also includes St Marys College in Naas.
“I recently visited my old school CPC with fellow past pupil Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer and our colleague Nina Carberry where principal Joe Leonard emphasised the urgent need for more space to accommodate the demand in the area. From my regular engagement with principal Pat Moloney, I know this progress is equally important for the Patrician Post Primary school in Newbridge.
“I am delighted that confirmation has now been received of progression of these extensions which will bring capacity at both schools to 1,000 pupils.
“Together with the new build for the Curragh Community College in Kildare town, these projects will increase capacity for secondary school places in the South Kildare area.
“I look forward to working with Joe, Pat and the Boards of Management to see these important projects through for South Kildare”, concluded Minster Heydon.
